[00:00:00] Speaker A: We're a very small litigation team. There's three lawyers and Mike, he's our executive director. He's also a lawyer, but also does all the big picture stuff. But we have a lot of work to do and such a small litigation team. So we also rely on a lot of pro bono attorneys, which is why we're kind of out here networking, just meeting people and trying to introduce people to our work. [00:00:17] Speaker B: Well, you came to the right spot. Lottie Gras is amazing. And Mike, your executive director. [00:00:21] Speaker A: Yes. [00:00:21] Speaker B: Huge mistake. He's at Cleo Con instead of La Gro, so he's totally missing out. [00:00:26] Speaker A: Very true. I know he sent some of the best out here. He knows that we're going to be able to come out here and meet all the people that we need to meet. So. [00:00:50] Speaker B: Most firms survive the best ones scale. Welcome to the Managing Partners podcast, where law firm leaders learn to think bigger. I'm Kevin Daisey. Let's jump in. What's up, Law De Gras? We're back with another guest here, and we got Claudia. She's with the Innocent Center. Welcome to the show. [00:01:11] Speaker A: Thank you so much. Thanks for having us. We always love an opportunity to talk about our work. For those of you who don't know, we are a nonprofit legal clinic that works to get innocent people out of prison. We also try to change the laws in California to try to prevent wrongful convictions or create avenues to open cases of people that were wrongfully convicted. And then, of course, we also try to help the clients of ours that we've gotten out on the release, set them up for success, to be able to do really good work and essentially kind of start their life over again. [00:01:41] Speaker B: Excellent. So it's the Innocence Center. [00:01:42] Speaker A: Yes. [00:01:43] Speaker B: And you're based just in California. Where's your location? [00:01:46] Speaker A: So our office is in San Diego, California, but we do cases all over California. We are actually branching out a little bit. We've done some cases in Hawaii. We're starting to do work in Idaho. We do federal cases, so I guess those are technically everywhere. But right now, most of our work is done in California. [00:02:03] Speaker B: Okay, that's excellent. So what's. You're an attorney at the firm? [00:02:07] Speaker A: Yes, I am. We're a very small litigation team. [00:02:26] Speaker B: Well, you came to the right spot. Lottie Gras is amazing. And Mike, your executive director. Yes, Huge mistake. He's at Cleocon instead of Laudi Gras, so he's totally missing out. [00:02:36] Speaker A: Very true. I know, but he sent some of the best out here. He knows that we're going to be able to come out here and meet all the people that we need to meet, so. [00:02:42] Speaker B: Absolutely. Cleocon looks massive. I heard it's like multi floors and all kinds of crazy stuff, so. [00:02:48] Speaker A: Definitely. [00:02:49] Speaker B: But you can't do both. I'd rather be at La Gras, in my opinion. [00:02:53] Speaker A: You can imagine the amount of perks that we've gotten over here. And the day in San Diego is beautiful. So can't come. [00:02:58] Speaker B: The weather here is perfect, the activities outside. There's concerts tonight. [00:03:03] Speaker A: Are you going to the concert? [00:03:04] Speaker B: Absolutely. [00:03:04] Speaker A: Okay, perfect. I'll see you there. Are you a dancer or more like. [00:03:08] Speaker B: No, I'm more of a hang and talk to people. [00:03:11] Speaker B: And we're east coast, so we're tired, so it'll be a little struggle, but we'll be there. [00:03:18] Speaker A: Have you seen the surprise? Is it a surprise still? Do people know who's performing tonight? [00:03:23] Speaker B: I don't know. Tonight is. I don't know. [00:03:25] Speaker A: Tonight is Diplo. So I was wondering, have you seen him before? [00:03:28] Speaker B: I have not. [00:03:29] Speaker A: Okay. I haven't either, so I'm excited. [00:03:31] Speaker B: So, yeah. Diplo, is. Is there a surprise one for tomorrow evening too? I don't even know. [00:03:35] Speaker A: I don't think so. Maybe. Possibly. No. Tomorrow we check in and we get our CLE credits for all the sessions that we've done today. So as a lawyer for all of that, we need that. [00:03:44] Speaker B: Yeah. Some of the breakout sessions here are amazing. They got some great speakers. We had Chris Foss yesterday. [00:03:50] Speaker A: Oh my goodness. [00:03:51] Speaker B: Yeah, from Never Split the Difference. [00:03:53] Speaker A: Wow. [00:03:54] Speaker B: Great session there. So. Well, I'm excited to have you out here and meet you and you guys sound like you're doing some really good. [00:04:00] Speaker A: Work and appreciate that it is pro bono. So if anybody here is interested in our work or supporting our work, you can go to the innocence center.org and see how you can get involved, either with hands on or with. Donations are always accepted too. So thank you. [00:04:14] Speaker B: Actually, here, here at Innocent center, check them out. [00:04:17] Speaker A: Thank you. [00:04:17] Speaker B: We'll see you later.
